Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
