President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their honor.
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Mourners came together over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in DC.
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the leader of her previous school, informed the media. “She was kind, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Officials have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event led the government to pause refugee claims and cease providing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed the program that she aimed to speak to the family.
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with honor, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey told the crowd at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
